Description
New Standard Aircraft Corporation was the product of a partnership with airshow promoter Ivan Gates and noted aircraft designer Charles H. Day and was in existence for a brief four years, producing a total of about 100 +airplanes. Sixty-two of these were the memorable D-25 series which was the ultimate barnstormer’s airplane. It achieved a reputation far out of proportion to its numbers. The D-25, in addition to hopping untold thousands of passengers, was put to work at a variety of tasks and performed each one well. Several of the single seat variants left the factory equipped for carrying mail, for agricultural applications, and for aerial advertising. Some of the five-place versions were field-modified to similar configurations.
Those that remain flying today are all Model 25A. It is estimated that seven New Standards survive; five of which are airworthy. There are two at Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome Museum, New York , one of which is under restoration. Two operate joy rides from the Fantasy of Flight at Polk City, Florida. D25A NC7286 was recently restored and is operated by Biplane Rides over Atlanta at DeKalb-Peachtree Airport. Additionally there is a D 25A, N930V, operated by Nostalgic Air Tours on the west coast. Steve and Suzanne Oliver’s N9194 was recently completely restored and is flown by Oliver’s Flying Circus.
Included in the package is a bonus scenery add-on of the original Poughkeepsie Airport in Red Oaks Mill NY which for a time was operated by aviation legend Johnny Miller and was, after the closure of the New Standard Company a factory for restoration and repair of New Standard Model D’s many of which were bent out of shape by bootleggers using the D 25 to run liquor from Canada to the US during the depression. There is also a download link in the user’s manual for a free copy of the Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome scenery add-on.
